I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and was able to enjoy time with family during the holidays.
Last week, deputies took a report of a damaged game camera and deer blind in the Trout Creek community. A short time later, the two suspects contacted the victim and admitted to damaging the items. Deputies obtained arrest warrants and subsequently arrested both individuals.
Saturday night, Deputy Brent Sonnier was patrolling in Deweyville and conducted a traffic stop on a four-wheeler near the intersection of Spur 272 and County Road 4191. During the stop, the driver, Michael Ray Perry, was found to be in possession of a clear, crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Deputy Sonnier also located a handgun on Perry. Perry was placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, PG 1 (State Jail Felony), and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor).
During the past week, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 61 calls for service and booked nine individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 24 inmates housed in the following facilities: 9 in Jasper, 4 in Beauregard Parish, and 11 in the Newton County Jail.
