Newton County Sheriff's Report

December 22, 2025

I hope everyone had a great week and was able to watch the Newton Eagles play Thursday night. Although it didn’t end in our favor, the players and coaches did an outstanding job and represented our community well.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Deputy Kiana Dixon responded to a report of a trespasser on County Road 4023. Deputy Dixon determined that Lewis Travis Knighton was trespassing on property after having recently been served notice by the landowner that he was not allowed on the premises. Mr. Knighton was arrested and booked into the Newton County Jail.

Late last week, we also received reports of phone scams in which someone was calling area residents, claiming to be an employee of the Sheriff’s Office and stating that the individual had warrants and needed to send money. Please remember, the Sheriff’s Office will never request money or personal information over the phone. These scams tend to increase during the holiday season, so please remain vigilant.

Lastly, I would like to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas. I hope you enjoy time with your families and that the kids receive plenty of presents. If you need us during the Christmas holidays, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Last week, we responded to 49 calls for service and booked four individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 23 inmates housed in the following facilities: 10 in Jasper, 4 in Beauregard Parish, and 9 in Newton County Jail.
