Newton County Sheriff's Report

Hopefully everyone is staying warm around the county—but if you give it a couple of days, it will be warm again.

We assisted South Newton County Fire with a travel trailer fire on Highway 62 in the Old Champion community. Fortunately, no one was inside the travel trailer, and all residents were accounted for.

Friday night, we received a call regarding a husband and wife involved in a disturbance. Long story short, deputies arrived on scene, and the husband was arrested and transported to jail for Assault Causes Bodily Injury.

On Saturday, we received a report of a missing two-year-old child. Thankfully, the child was located shortly after and was safe and sound, having been outside playing. Anytime we receive a call like this, it is immediately an “all hands on deck” response.

Last week, we answered 61 calls for service and booked 5 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 24 inmates housed in the following facilities: 10 in Jasper, 5 in Beauregard Parish, and 9 in the Newton County Jail.
