Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had an extremely busy week at the Sheriff’s Office. We are continuing to investigate leads pertaining to the dog fighting investigation.
Friday night we had the annual Deweyville Christmas parade. I appreciate everyone that makes it happen year after year. Saturday night I attended the lighting of the Newton County Courthouse. Great job to everyone that made this happen. It’s always a great time seeing the community get together for the holidays.
This afternoon, we assisted the United States Marshal’s Office serve an arrest warrant in Deweyville. As Marshals and Deputies got the first guy into custody, they noticed another passerby that also had warrants.
They were able to safely take both subjects into custody without incident.
Saturday evening, Reverend Rodney Norsworthy of Jasper came by and presented us with stop the bleed kits, tourniquets and mass-casualty trauma kits to give out to our deputies to help keep the community safe.
Last week, we answered 49 calls for service and booked 4 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 24 inmates housed in the following facilities: 10 in Jasper, 7 in Beauregard Parish, and 7 in the Newton County Jail.
I hope everyone has a great week!
