I hope everyone has had a great week! Thankfully, we received some rain over the weekend, and our burn ban had been rescinded. It’s been a busy week around Newton County. We had a man report to probation last week and when the probation officer told him to take a urine analysis, he went into the restroom and poured water into the cup. He was arrested for Falsification of Drug Test Results. Friday evening, deputies were dispatched to a residence in Old Salem, in reference to a disturbance. Deputy Dixon arrived on scene and began trying to speak with the reporting party, but was soon interrupted by the suspect, who began hollering and continuing to cause a disturbance. He was subsequently arrested for Public Intoxication.
As we approach Halloween, I’d like to remind everyone to be aware of your surroundings as you and your loved ones are trick-or-treating. We will be at the Sheriff’s Office on the evening of Halloween, if you want to stop by, say hello and trick or treat.
We answered 66 calls for service last week and have booked in 6 into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 20 inmates in the following facilities: 7 in Jasper, 5 in Beauregard Parish and 8 in Newton.
If we can be of any assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I hope everyone has a great week!
