NCSO & USMS Arrest Deweyville Fugitive:

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, along with the United States Marshal’s Service, went to an address off County Road 4173 in an attempt to serve felony arrest warrants on Brian David Henry. Henry was wanted out of Jefferson County for two counts of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child victim under 14 (F1). Upon arrival at the residence, Henry was placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail without incident.

Burn Ban in Effect:

Due to dry conditions, a burn ban is currently in effect for Newton County. All outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice. We got some rain over the weekend, but unfortunately, it was not enough to settle the dust. Hopefully we will get some more rain in the near future.

Newton County Fugitive Arrested by Jefferson Co. Sheriff’s Marine Division:

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a report of an aggravated sexual assault of a child. During the course of the investigation, deputies obtained evidence, which was presented to a Newton County justice of the peace, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued for Christian Caine Wright for the offense of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

NCSO learned during the course of the investigation that Wright was employed on a tugboat. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the United States Marshal’s Service to locate and apprehend Wright. On October 16, 2025, Wright was taken into custody on the tugboat by the Jefferson County Marine Division and subsequently transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he awaits extradition back to Newton County.

Wright is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

NCSO is very appreciative of the U.S. Marshal's Service and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for their assistance and partnerships.

Calls for Service:

We answered 54 calls for service this week and booked 5 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 24 inmates housed in the following facilities: 6 in Beauregard Parish, 8 in Jasper, and 10 in Newton.

Thought for the Week:

Mondays are the start of the work week, which offer new beginnings 52 times a year!
