Sheriff’s Report


Fugitive Arrest on County Road 2110 in Burkeville:

On Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 7:26 a.m., deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, along with the United States Marshals Service and the Newton Police Department, served a felony warrant in the 2100 block of County Road 2110 in Burkeville. The suspect, identified as Casey Edward Baker, had several felony warrants out of Angelina and Walker Counties for Failure to Appear on Aggravated Assault Family Violence and Indecency with a Child. In an attempt to conceal his identity and whereabouts, Baker had also been reported as a missing person out of Walker County and believed to be using alias names. Upon arrival, it was determined that Baker was inside the residence but refused to open the door. Forced entry was made, and Baker was taken into custody and transported to the Newton County Jail.


Recovery of stolen boat on County Road 4101:

On June 28, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a complainant of a stolen aluminum boat off County Road 4102. After a few hours of searching the area, deputies located the stolen boat on Cow Creek off of County Road 4101. The owner arrived on scene to retrieve his boat. This case is still under investigation.


Fugitive Arrest in the Gist Community:

On Thursday, June 25, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy Shaunna Phippen, along with Deputy Jacob Spivey from Jasper County, responded to a residence in the 100 block of County Road 3137 in the Gist Community in an attempt to serve a felony warrant on Nathan Lum. Nathan was wanted out of Orange County for possession of a controlled substance. Upon arrival, deputies placed Nathan into custody without incident and subsequently released him to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Great job to Deputy Phippen and Jasper County Deputy Spivey!


Criminal Trespass in Toledo Village:

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Deputy Lewis “Sonny” White was patrolling Honeysuckle Drive when he made contact with Logan Paul Anderson, who had an active criminal trespass warrant for his arrest out of Newton County. Deputy White placed Anderson under arrest without incident and transported him to the Newton County Jail.


Calls for Service:

We answered 67 calls for service last week and booked 5 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 29 inmates housed in the following facilities: 6 in Beauregard Parish, 8 in Jasper, and 15 in Newton.
