Sheriff’s Report


Newton Parole Violator Arrest:

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 1:22 p.m., Sheriff Colton Havard was traveling on State Highway 87 near Hardy Street when he recognized a man riding a four-wheeler who was known to be a wanted fugitive. Sheriff Havard initiated a traffic stop on the four-wheeler and positively identified the man as Thomas Joe Hall, who was wanted by Texas Pardon and Parole for a parole violation. Hall was placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail without incident.


Deweyville Parole Violator Arrest:

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 11:52 a.m., deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Service, went to a residence in the 300 block of County Road 3125 in Deweyville in an attempt to serve a felony arrest warrant. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Branton Amos Monceaux, who was wanted by Texas Pardon and Parole for a parole violation and by Orange County for possession of a controlled substance. Deputies took Monceaux into custody without incident and transported him to the Newton County Jail.


Fugitive Arrest in Singletary Sites:

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Sheriff Colton Havard was patrolling County Road 4055 (Singletary Sites community) due to citizen complaints about possible criminal activity. Sheriff Havard made contact with a white male walking down the road, identified as Gary Gene Graham, who was wanted for a probation violation for possession of a controlled substance. Graham was placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail without incident.


Calls for Service:

We answered 60 calls for service last week and booked 6 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 28 inmates housed in the following facilities: 5 in Beauregard Parish, 10 in Jasper, and 13 in Newton.
