Newton County Man Wanted for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child Captured on Tugboat

NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — A fugitive wanted out of Newton County for aggravated sexual assault of a child was captured Thursday, October 16, 2025, aboard a tugboat following a coordinated effort between local and federal law enforcement agencies.

According to Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard, deputies began investigating the case on September 25, 2025, after receiving a report of an aggravated sexual assault involving a child.

During the investigation, NCSO deputies gathered evidence that was presented to a Newton County justice of the peace, resulting in an arrest warrant for Christian Caine Wright on the charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

Investigators later learned that Wright was employed on a tugboat, prompting coordination with the United States Marshals Service and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division to locate and apprehend him.

On Thursday, October 16, members of the Jefferson County Marine Division located the vessel and took Wright into custody without incident. He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he awaits extradition back to Newton County.

Sheriff Havard extended appreciation to all agencies involved for their swift cooperation and assistance.

“We’re very appreciative of the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and partnership,” Havard said.

Wright remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
