Newton County Jailer was jailed in Jasper County for having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate under her care


Following a lengthy investigation, a former Newton County Jailer and 911 Dispatch Operator was arrested and charged with having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate that she was in charge of.


In August of 2022, 28-year-old Kaitlyn Busey of Jasper was terminated from her position at the Newton County Jail where she had been employed for the previous 10 months.


Newton County Sheriff Richard Burby said, "As per protocol, I called the Texas Rangers in to investigate Kaitlyn after she was terminated." Based on their findings, Busey was placed under arrest and was held at Jasper County Jail on December 21, 2023.


Busey 's official charge was listed as 'Civil Rights Person in Custody Violate/Sexual'. Her bond was set at $25,000 which she posted and was released the following day.
