NEWTON, Texas — The Newton County Jail has once again passed its annual inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, earning a perfect score with zero deficiencies, according to Sheriff Colton Havard.
The inspection took place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, and included a full review of facility operations, records, policies, and staff procedures. Following the review, state inspectors announced that the jail met all compliance requirements under Texas law.
“As Sheriff, I am extremely proud of our jail staff,” said Havard. “These men and women do not receive nearly enough credit for the great job they do. Jail staff play a vital role in our criminal justice system and are often forgotten about. Once again, I am extremely proud of their hard work and dedication to Newton County.”
The inspection marks another year of full compliance for the Newton County Jail, a reflection of the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing focus on safety, professionalism, and accountability.
