JASPER, Texas — The Jasper Police Department is reminding all business owners that beginning October 13, 2025, a new city ordinance takes effect prohibiting the possession or operation of any “eight liner” amusement redemption machines within Jasper city limits.
According to Jasper PD, this ordinance is not limited to traditional “game rooms.” The restriction applies to any single eight liner machine located anywhere in the city, including inside convenience stores, bars, or private businesses.
“After October 13th, it will be unlawful to own, operate, lease, or allow the use of these machines in any form,” Jasper Police officials said. “The City of Jasper will not issue any permits or licenses for game rooms or eight liners.”
The department is urging all local business owners to remove or discontinue use of any eight liner machines before the October 13th deadline to avoid potential violations.
Eight liner machines — which resemble slot machines and often issue prizes or cash equivalents — have been the focus of increased enforcement efforts across Texas due to concerns about illegal gambling and unregulated cash payouts.
For more information or clarification about the ordinance, business owners can contact the Jasper Police Department or the City of Jasper Code Enforcement Office.
