Emergency crews responded Tuesday morning to a natural gas pipeline explosion near Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, after flames were reported coming from a pipeline in the area.
According to the Cameron Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness, the fire broke out on the Delfin LNG pipeline near Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou. The pipeline remained actively burning as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze and assess the situation.
As a precaution, Johnson Bayou High School—located approximately six miles from the fire—was placed under a shelter-in-place order.
One pipeline operator suffered minor injuries, according to KPLC. No additional injuries were reported at this time.
Hazmat teams were dispatched to the scene to assist with the response and monitor conditions in the surrounding area.
The pipeline is part of the Delfin LNG project, which involves offshore natural gas infrastructure connected to existing pipelines in Cameron Parish. The system transports natural gas from U.S. transmission networks to offshore facilities in the Gulf of Mexico.
Emergency crews continued working throughout the morning to secure the area and evaluate potential impacts. Residents in the Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou areas were urged to monitor official emergency communications and follow any instructions issued by parish officials.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available from the Cameron Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness and responding agencies.
