Jasper County, Tx- At 3:52 pm March 1st, Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department was called out to 642 Cr 600 for a structure fire. Buna was called to assist. Kirbyville VFD Chief Greg Ellis said, "It looked like someone was burning trash and it got away from them. It burned three out buildings and almost got to the house."

Then at 3:57 pm, KVFD was also called to 14323 FM 252 just outside of Kirbyville for an out of control grass fire. The fire was nearing a wooded area, but KVFD was able to stop it before it became too heavily involved.

Then, at 4:44 pm the same day, Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department was called out to 358 CR 345 near Jasper for another fire. This time the owner said that he was burning some trash in a burn barrel and it just got away from him. Fire fighters were able to douse the flames before any additional damage was done.

Ellis added, "We aren't currently under a burn ban, but we've just got to think about what we're doing. Never leave a fire unattended. Everything on top of the ground is dry and when the wind picks up, it can make a controlled fire, get out of control fast."
Remember, from 6 am Tuesday morning, until at least 6 pm that evening, our area will be under high wind warnings. Burning during this period of time is asking for trouble.
