NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a fast-moving pasture fire Sunday afternoon that threatened several structures but resulted in no property loss.

According to the Newton Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 2:00 p.m. to a reported pasture fire on County Road 3035. Upon arrival, firefighters observed that multiple structures were in danger as the fire spread rapidly due to low humidity and windy conditions.

Fire officials said the blaze originated from a trash fire that spread beyond its original burn area, igniting multiple pastures and trees. Initial suppression efforts were challenging due to the fire’s speed and environmental conditions, but containment improved once mutual aid units arrived.

Assisting agencies included Bon Wier Fire Department, Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Burkeville Fire Department, Texas A&M Forest Service, and Tom Webb with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM). Care Plus–Newton was also on scene and remained on standby to provide medical support if needed.

Newton VFD expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by all responding agencies, as well as Newton County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, citing their quick response and coordination in securing additional resources.

A total of 16 fire apparatus and 28 responders were involved in the incident. Officials confirmed that seven structures were threatened, but no structures were lost. The fire ultimately burned an estimated five to six acres before being brought under control.
