Mother of infant born with controlled substances in it's system has been arrested

Newton County, TX A Child Endangerment investigation in Newton County that began on March 10th of this year with the birth of a baby, has ended a month later with the arrest of the mother. Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard said that the suspect gave birth to an infant that tested positive for several controlled substances at the time of birth.
Newton County Investigators conducted interviews, working closely with The Department of Family and Public Services. Havard said that information that was gathered during the investigation was enough to bring to a judge who then issued an arrest warrant for the child's mother.
On Saturday, May 10th the suspect, Gayla Caldwell was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail. She was ultimately charged with Abandonment/Endangerment of a Child.
