Two individuals were arrested Sunday afternoon following a traffic stop in north Jasper County, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, January 25, 2026, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard received a call on his cell phone regarding a suspicious vehicle in the north end of the county.
Deputy Shannon Davis Jr. was dispatched to the area and located the vehicle, a Chrysler 200, near the intersection of County Road 54 and Private Road 335, at the old Letney boat ramp in the Harveytown area. Deputy Davis initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation.
During the stop, the vehicle’s occupants—Trista Frazier, 41, of Newton, and Richard Kirkland, 45, of Jasper—displayed nervous behavior and consented to a search of the vehicle. During that search, Deputy Davis located glass pipes commonly used to consume methamphetamine.
A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and additional drug paraphernalia concealed inside the dashboard. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to authorities, both individuals stated they were in the area planning to walk around the lake despite sub-freezing temperatures. Kirkland claimed ownership of the narcotics.
Kirkland was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 (State Jail Felony). Frazier was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor).
All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff Havard stated that he and his staff remain committed to combating criminal activity throughout Jasper County.
