JASPER COUNTY, Texas — A residential house fire claimed the life of a 55-year-old Jasper man early Sunday morning, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.

On December 14, 2025, at approximately 7:37 a.m., the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fully engulfed house fire at a residence located at 1087 FM 2800 in Jasper.

A Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy was the first to arrive on scene and was able to safely remove an elderly female from the residence, moving her away from the fire and out of harm’s way.

Once the fire was extinguished, members of the Jasper Fire Department entered the home and located a deceased individual inside. The victim has been identified as a local man; however, his name is not being released at this time pending further procedures.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office investigators remain on scene and will continue to secure the area until investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office arrive to determine the cause of the fire.

Multiple agencies and fire departments responded to the incident, including several area fire departments, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Jasper Police Department.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the family at this very difficult time,” Sheriff Havard said.

This is a developing story. East Texas Banner will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
