On April 16th, at approximately 2:00 am, a Jasper County Deputy was dispatched to Hwy 62 south of Buna in reference to an animal complaint. The caller, identified as 33-year-old Kolton Smith of Buna, was walking his dog, and found a young wild hog. Smith demanded that the Sheriff’s Office do their job and do something with this pig.
Upon arrival, the deputy, following procedure, performed his duties, and learned Smith had an active warrant for Resist Arrest/Search/Transport, Class A misdemeanor, from Jefferson County. Smith was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
The pig was free to leave.
Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard wants the public to remember that Smith is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
