Man Arrested After Jail Damage and ATV Incident at Lake Rayburn Fire Station

Jasper County, Texas — A Brookeland man is facing two Class A Criminal Mischief charges following separate incidents at the Jasper County Jail and Lake Rayburn Fire Department Substation #2.
On December 3, 2025, JCSO Investigator A.J. Noel arrested Justin Elton Key, 40, of Brookeland, on two active warrants for Criminal Mischief.
Jail Cell Damage — November 30, 2025
According to investigators, Key was incarcerated at the Jasper County Jail on November 30 when he allegedly intentionally shattered a window in a holding cell.
The damage to the reinforced security window was assessed at $1,551.10.
Lake Rayburn Fire Department Incident
A second Criminal Mischief warrant stems from an incident at the Lake Rayburn Fire Department Substation #2, where Key is accused of recklessly operating an ATV in the parking lot, causing significant surface damage.
The estimated repair cost for the parking lot is approximately $980.00.

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard emphasized his office’s commitment to protecting public resources:
“This type of conduct is not acceptable. My staff and I are committed to combating criminal activity in Jasper County, and we will be asking the court for restitution so taxpayers aren’t left footing the bill.”
