BUNA, Texas — A 43-year-old man from Louisiana was killed in a three-vehicle crash early Monday morning along Texas Highway 62 near County Road 784, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS troopers say the crash occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, near the Highway 62 and County Road 784 intersection.
According to investigators, a 2019 Ram pickup, driven by the 43-year-old Louisiana man, was traveling southbound on Highway 62 and was followed by a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by a 38-year-old Jasper man. A 2017 Nissan passenger vehicle, driven by a 38-year-old woman, was traveling northbound.
Troopers report that the driver of the Chevrolet attempted to pass the Ram in a no-passing zone. While attempting to pass, the driver reportedly noticed the Nissan approaching from the opposite direction and jerked the steering wheel back to the right, causing the Chevrolet to strike the Ram.
The impact sent the Ram pickup into a ditch on the west side of the roadway, where it struck several trees. DPS officials say the Nissan left the roadway to the right in an effort to avoid a head-on collision with the Chevrolet and also struck a tree.
The 43-year-old man driving the Ram was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace.
The driver of the Nissan, along with the driver of the Chevrolet and his adult passenger, were not injured, according to DPS.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time. The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
