Local soccer team wins COPA Gulf Coast Championship

The Select Soccer Club “The Twisters”, have won this seasons championship! 9 and 10-year-old boys and girls from Jasper and Kirbyville competed in the COPA Gulf Coast Cup Championship in Port Arthur today in the U10 Division.

This tournament marks the end of the spring soccer season. This is a large tournament and the competing teams come from all over the state. The Twisters won the Silver metal there last spring but this is their first time winning the GOLD!

Twister's Coach, Ryan Boyette said, "Our team has been together now for 5 years. We started out with a group of 4 of the same kids while playing in the Pineywood Youth Soccer League or 'PYSL' before deciding to branch out on our own as a traveling team."

The team is also affiliated with Kirbyville Youth Soccer League or KYSL sometimes playing matches there when not traveling.

The team is called the Twisters as a homage to a soccer club that Jasper had years ago by the same name.
