Letter to the Editor: Former Mayor Anderson M. Land Jr. Addresses Jasper Elections

The following is a submitted letter to the editor from Anderson M. Land Jr., former mayor of Jasper. The views expressed are his own.
To the citizens of the City of Jasper, first, I would like to say good luck to all the candidates running in the municipal and county elections. Let's hope we will elect city council members who will focus on the business of moving the city of Jasper forward, rather than creating a chaotic and hostile environment to govern in, all the while sowing division, instability, and divisiveness within the city and on the city council.
You have certain members on the Jasper City Council who would prefer to grab your attention through crisis, along with those few who are out there creating a troll-like dilemma by grabbing people's attention through crisis, by creating one when there is none. Whatever issues the city is having cannot be resolved if you have a city council that cannot work together on them. You cannot have a single person or a trolling entity always trying to grab the spotlight on their personal agenda.
Somehow, trolls have figured out the shortcut to how to grab attention through obnoxiousness, conflict, chaos, division, divisiveness, and being negative instead of doing it positively and persuasively, and not trolling. You need to elect city officials who will restore decorum and bring professionalism back to the Jasper City Council.
