On July 17, 2025, deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26-year-old Miriha Barrett of Kirbyville on multiple felony charges following a disturbance call on FM 252.
According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, Sgt. Chris Wade and Deputy Jacob Spivey responded to a report of a female allegedly striking a 2-year-old child in the face. While en route, dispatch advised that the woman was reportedly running down the road wearing only a pair of shorts.
Upon arrival, deputies located and identified the suspect as Miriha Barrett. Officers determined that Barrett was under the influence of an illegal narcotic and believed the child was in imminent danger as a result.
During the investigation, Barrett reportedly removed two methamphetamine pipes from her shorts and attempted to destroy the evidence by smashing them on the ground. She was taken into custody without further incident.
Barrett was booked into the Jasper County Jail on charges of Endangering a Child (State Jail Felony) and Tampering with Physical Evidence (Third-Degree Felony).
As a reminder, all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff Havard emphasized his department’s continued commitment to protecting the safety of children and holding offenders accountable throughout Jasper County.
