Kirbyville VFD called to a car fire, but ended up dealing with a grass fire instead

ree

Just after 1:30 Friday, the Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a vehicle fire on Hwy 96 North of Kirbyville near Cr 480.

1st Assistant Chief Steven Sowder said, "On our way to the car fire we saw a grass fire that was spreading. Just a short distance up the road was the car fire. I spoke with the people in the car who said that they were going camping when the fire started in the vehicle. They were able to put the fire out before we arrived so we went back to work on the grass fire."

Sowder said that it is unknown if the car fire sparked the grass fire, or if the grass fire sparked the car fire. Either way, both were extinguished and no one was hurt.
