Katie Newman, a Kirbyville native and accounting student at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been awarded a $3,000 scholarship from the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TXCPA) East Texas chapter. Newman is one of 15 students selected to receive a portion of the $37,000 in scholarships awarded for the 2025–2026 academic year.
To qualify, recipients must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0, be enrolled full-time, and have completed nine or more credit hours in accounting courses. Selection is based on academic performance and demonstrated potential to contribute to the accounting profession.
The scholarship funds are made possible through TXCPA East Texas' annual Tal Glenn Memorial Golf Tournament, which has raised over $400,000 in scholarships since 1996.
TXCPA East Texas serves more than 800 members across 20 counties and continues to invest in the future of accounting by supporting outstanding local students like Newman.
