Kirbyville man made threats of a shooting and was arrested shortly thereafter


According to a press release from Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby, a Kirbyville man has been arrested in Newton County and charged with Terrorist Threats. He was identified as 24-year-old Tyler Joe Hammers.


The press release is as follows;

On January 11, 2024, NCSO Dispatch received a call at 12:47 from Southern Forest Products on FM 2626 in reference to a former employee threatening to shoot the place up because he was fired several months ago.

We responded at 12:51 and took the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all employees on location and prevent such an act from occurring. The possible suspect did not show up on scene and we obtained his identity and location.

We obtained a warrant for his arrest, and he was taken into custody without incident at his residence in Kirbyville. He is currently charged with the following offenses:

Terroristic Threat Interrupt Public Place PC 22.07 (d) MA

Terroristic Threat PC 22.07 (a)(3) MA

The suspect is identified as Tyler Joe Hammers, 24 YOA, Bond $12,500.00
