Kirbyville Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting a Family Member - Released on a $100,000 Bond

KIRBYVILLE, TX-

On Tuesday, July 29th, Kirbyville Police Officer Ashley Arce received a call from a lady requesting a welfare check on her sister. The woman stated that her sister had allegedly been assaulted by her husband a few days prior and she was concerned about her safety and an injury she received in the altercation.

Officer Arce, and Kirbyville Police Officer Scott Duncan arrived at the home and spoke to the woman. Arce said that the woman had an injury to her eye and it had since swollen shut.

The woman and the couple's two oldest children wrote detailed statements regarding the assault and then filed charges on 32-year-old Shelby Viscardis of Kirbyville.

The statements indicated a number of allegations of allegedly serious abuses that had occurred to the woman in the past many years, including threats made from Viscardis to the woman regarding her personal safety.

The woman was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital for her injuries. She was soon transferred to Houston's Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of severe injuries to her eye. She was kept as an inpatient overnight and was reportedly told that she could lose her vision in the injured eye.

On Thursday, July 31st at approximately 5:45 pm, Shelby Viscardis went to the Kirbyville Police Department to make a statement about the incident. He also made allegations against the woman and wrote a statement reflecting his side of the story, including threats to puncture the tires on his vehicle.

Shelby Viscardis was arrested on Friday, August 1st and charged with Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury. He was arraigned on Sunday, August 3rd and was given a $100,000 bond. Viscardis later posted a bond and was released.
