JCSO Honors Mental Health Deputy Mitch Hanley as July Employee of the Month

JASPER, Texas — Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Mental Health Deputy Mitch Hanley was named the agency’s Employee of the Month for July, Sheriff Chuck Havard announced Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Hanley joined the department in January 2025 after a long career with the Beaumont Police Department. In his current role, he serves as the county’s mental health deputy, bringing extensive experience in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention.

“When he was hired here, we were looking for the best of the best, and he is one of the top professionals in law enforcement,” Sheriff Chuck Havard said. “His demeanor, patience and experience help him divert people away from jail and into mental health programs. In the 7½ months he has been serving Jasper County, he has been instrumental in giving individuals and their families hope and inspiration to overcome mental health and substance abuse issues. I can’t thank him enough for his dedication to duty and for making sacrifices on behalf of our agency and our county.”

Havard said JCSO continues to work with hospitals, medical professionals and chemical dependency specialists to address mental health crises and substance abuse struggles in the community.

“There are many times that bringing someone to jail isn’t the answer,” he said. “But sometimes it’s the only option we have for their safety and the safety of our citizens. We will continue to work hard while providing professional and compassionate services to those in need.”

Havard also thanked the entire team at the sheriff’s office.

“Every employee here is a valuable team member, and I’m proud to lead such fine men and women,” he said. “Congrats, Deputy Hanley.”
