JASPER COUNTY, Texas — The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has recognized Major Steve Crowell as its Employee of the Month for September, honoring his outstanding leadership, commitment, and service to the citizens of Jasper County.
Sheriff Chuck Havard commended Major Crowell for his dedication both to the department and to the community, describing him as a key figure in the daily operations of the sheriff’s office.
“I’ve known Steve for 27 years. When I got to DPS, Steve had already been there for nine,” Sheriff Havard said. “I’ve always respected the way he carries himself and have always looked up to him. His decision-making ability and people skills are second to none. He’s smart and has so much common sense.”
After a long and successful career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Crowell went on to hold a management position with Skeeter Boats before joining the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
“Not only did he leave a lucrative job with Skeeter to come here and serve the citizens of Jasper County,” Havard continued, “but he also worked many months prior to us taking office without any compensation, helping get our staff together. Rarely is there a decision made at our office without it being run by him. I value his input and knowledge.”
Havard noted that although Major Crowell does not receive overtime pay, he routinely works 60–80 hours per week without complaint.
“He’s directly responsible for all operations of our Sheriff’s Office,” Havard said. “He treats our employees with respect but holds them accountable and provides them every opportunity for success. Myself, Chief Pulliam, and our entire staff are grateful for him and his dedication to the people of our county.”
The sheriff concluded by thanking Major Crowell for his continued sacrifice and service.
“Thank you, Major, for everything you do and the sacrifices you and your family make for Jasper County,” Havard said. “I also want to commend the men and women of our agency for the job they are doing. Every job in our agency is just as important as my own.”
