Buna, Texas – The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) arrested a Buna man during a sex offender compliance check on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

According to investigators, deputies arrived around 12:00 p.m. at a residence on Powdrill Road, commonly known as Cougar Country, to conduct a routine compliance check. Upon arrival, investigators reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the home.

Authorities discovered three young adults and a juvenile living at the location under the guardianship of the registered sex offender, who was not present at the time. Investigators contacted him, and he left his employer to return home.

Due to what they described as “exigent circumstances,” investigators conducted a safety sweep of the residence and found marijuana in plain view. During the investigation, it was learned that the sex offender had allegedly provided marijuana to a 15-year-old child.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Ray Vincent, 45, of Buna, was arrested and charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana to a Child, a Second-Degree Felony. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

The 15-year-old juvenile was placed in custody and turned over to Jasper County Juvenile authorities. No identifying information or photographs of the juvenile will be released.

Sheriff Chuck Havard issued a strong statement following the arrest, warning registered sex offenders in Jasper County that his office will continue to monitor compliance closely:

“If you are a sex offender in Jasper County, know this — me and my staff will be checking on you during all hours of the day and night. If you’re doing what you’re supposed to do, you will not have a problem. If you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do, we will file all appropriate charges against you and see that you’re brought to justice. PERIOD.”
