JASPER, Texas — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6380 in Jasper is calling on all middle and high school students to show their patriotism — and possibly win thousands of dollars in scholarship money.
The VFW’s annual Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay competitions are now open for entries for the 2025–2026 school year, with the theme:
“How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9–12, who must submit a 3–5 minute recorded audio essay and written transcript. The national grand prize is an impressive $35,000 scholarship.
Patriot’s Pen is open to students in grades 6–8, who will submit a 300–400 word written essay on the same theme. The top national prize is $5,000.
Both contests give students the opportunity to express their love of country, pride in citizenship, and appreciation for America’s veterans. Local winners from Jasper Post 6380 advance to compete at the district, state, and national levels.
The entry deadline is October 31, 2025, and students can find details or submit applications through the Scholar’s App platform.
