Jasper County, Texas — A Jasper man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say he attempted to evade a traffic stop late Wednesday night and was later found with a rifle he is prohibited from possessing.
According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, the incident occurred on December 4, 2025, at approximately 11:26 p.m. when Deputy Daigle and Deputy Tipton were dispatched to the 300 block of County Road 029 regarding a vehicle that had been parked in front of a residence for an extended period.
When deputies arrived, they observed the vehicle in the roadway, appearing to be reversing and swerving. Deputy Daigle activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver turned into a nearby driveway and began attempting to evade deputies.
Investigators say the driver continued behind a residence, where the vehicle became stuck. Deputies issued commands for the driver to exit, but he fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody and identified as Seth McNamara, 41, of Jasper.
A search of the vehicle led deputies to an AR-15 style rifle. Records indicate McNamara is a convicted felon, prohibiting him from possessing firearms.
McNamara was arrested and faces the following charges:
Reckless Driving — Class B Misdemeanor
Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle (Previous Conviction) — Third-Degree Felony
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon — Third-Degree Felony
McNamara is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff Havard added that he and his staff remain committed to combating criminal activity and keeping Jasper County communities safe.
