The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce that Sergeant Cody Christopher and Sergeant Chris Wade are the employees of the month for August. Sergeant Christopher has 20 years of law enforcement experience and has been with JCSO since March of 2025. Sergeant Wade is a 17-year law enforcement veteran and has been with JCSO since March of 2023. Sergeant Christopher and Sergeant Wade are our patrol sergeants. They are both directly responsible for our patrol operations and their jobs require a great deal of their time, even when they are off duty. Their guidance, leadership and oversight make our agency more professional, effective and accountable. Jasper County is blessed to have both men and I’m extremely thankful for the sacrifices they and their families make on behalf of our Sheriff's Office.
Our new Law Enforcement boat unveiling last Thursday, September 18th, 2025, was a huge success. We hope everyone enjoyed the dedication ceremony, food, soft drinks and boat rides. It was great to see the friendly faces.
On September 19th, 2025, I was made aware of the possible location of a wanted felon fugitive. I, along with my deputies, immediately deployed to a location off 1004 East in Kirbyville. The wanted fugitive, identified as Blake J. Burch, 39, of Buna, was found and arrested. He was wanted on a warrant issued by the Texas Pardon and Parole Board for Burglary of Habitation (1st Degree Felony). Burch was also wanted by Kirbyville PD for Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury (Misdemeanor A). He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
On September 19th, 2025, Deputy Gray noticed a tan Ford Ranger known to transport a wanted felon while patrolling Rayburn Country. Deputy Gray submitted the license plate displayed on the Ford Ranger to JCSO Communications who advised that the license plate belonged to a Coleman Police Department vehicle. Deputy Gray made contact with the driver identified as Robert Carlton III, 53, of Brookeland. Carlton was confirmed to be a wanted individual from Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for Bail Jumping, original charge of Unlawful Possession Firearm by Felon (3rd Degree Felony). Carlton was placed under arrest and taken to the Jasper County Jail. The license plate was seized. An investigation is pending.
On September 19th, 2025, Deputy Gray initiated a traffic investigation stop on South Wheeler. The driver was identified as Dacorian Cauley, 28, of Buna. Deputy Gray confirmed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Cauley’s breath. After Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Cauley was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated 2nd (Misdemeanor A) as he had a previous conviction for DWI. Cauley was subsequently charged with Unlawful Carry Weapon due to Cauley knowingly being in possession of 2 handguns while engaged in criminal activity above class C misdemeanor. Cauley was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
On September 22nd, 2025, Major Steve Crowell, Deputy Matt Hopson and Texas DPS Aircraft personnel flew to Canon City, Colorado and took custody of Justin Keith Debourgeois. Debourgeois, 27, of Jasper, fled to Colorado several months ago in an attempt to avoid an Aggravated Robbery conviction and transport to TDC out of Jasper County. Shortly after arriving in Colorado, he was convicted of crimes there and sentenced to the Colorado Department of Corrections. Debourgeois was released into our custody and will answer for his crimes in Jasper County. I’d like to thank the Texas Department of Public Safety and their personnel for assisting us with extraditing this individual back to Jasper County. If anyone commits a crime in our county and flees, we will use every available resource we have to bring them back here to face justice.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy AJ Noel will be promoted to a CID Investigator effective October 1st, 2025. Deputy Noel did an outstanding job during the oral interview board process and we are looking forward to him serving in this new position where he will be assigned to the Jasper Office. He will be working cases on the north end of our county. I’m very confident he will continue to do a great job for our agency and the citizens of Jasper County!
The Jasper County Sheriff's Office has hired 5 new patrol deputies, all of whom are slated to graduate from the Academy in Jasper on October 2nd, 2025. Clayton Daigle, Daniel Hoke, Vern Kaylor, Bradley Morgan, and Dr. Tony Tipton will begin working with us on October 3rd, 2025. All these men have worked very hard to accomplish their goal of becoming Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies. These men were hand picked to come work for us and attend the academy right after I took office. They are all top-notch professionals. They have all been very successful in their previous careers and are going to do an extraordinary job for our county.
As always, it is a great privilege and honor to be the Sheriff of Jasper County.
Respectfully,
Chuck Havard
Jasper County Sheriff
