Jasper County Sheriff’s Report

7/29/2025

ree

It has been another busy week here at the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. I want to thank our men and women for the job that they are doing. We are continuing to reduce response times and we will strive to always be more efficient and effective.

On July 22, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office received a call for a burglary of a habitation west of Jasper.  The burglary had occurred several days before while the property owner was out of town.  When the officers arrived, they were informed that 24 guns had been stolen. A short time later, we received information leading to the identification of one adult male and one juvenile male.  Jacob Hunter James, 17, of Jasper was arrested along with the juvenile who was taken to a juvenile facility. James was arrested for Burglary of Habitation – Felony 2 and taken to the Jasper County Jail. The juvenile’s name nor photo will be released due to his juvenile status.

On July 24, 2025, the phone lines and internet were down at the JCSO and other county agencies.  AT&T was contacted and the issue was resolved.

On July 26, 2025, JCSO Sergeant David Lampman conducted security training with members of the Jasper County Cowboy Church.  The training was held at JC3 and consisted of self-defense, handcuffing techniques and general situational awareness. Sergeant Lampman, a 25-year veteran law enforcement officer, is an expert on church and school security.  This training is crucial because it gives church members more tools to effectively handle threats and emergency situations at church services and functions.

On July 27, 2025, JCSO received a call regarding a shooting in Brookeland.  The caller identified himself and said he shot his 15-year-old sister.  He reported that she was unresponsive and that there were explosive devices at the entrance of the home. He also stated he was armed with a pistol and a shotgun and that he did not want to go back to jail. Multiple JCSO patrol deputies and investigators were deployed to the residence along with Texas DPS troopers.  Upon arrival, our deputies made contact with the property owners and several neighbors and determined this to be a bogus call, often referred to as a “Swatting Call”.  Swatting is a terrible new trend that involves someone falsifying an emergency to solicit a heavy police response.  We’ve been in contact with our local, state, and federal partners, including the FBI – Beaumont to assist us with this call.

On July 28, 2025, Billy Dale Jolly, 58, of Buna was arrested for Harassment – Class B Misdemeanor and brought to the Jasper County Jail.

At 1:00 P.M. today we will have our first meeting today with the Texas Jail Commission regarding our old recreation yard renovation.  We are hoping this will add an additional 14 beds to our jail capacity.

Please note that all persons listed in this report are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

This morning, we are conducting OC Spray (pepper spray) training for our jail personnel.  Training is vital to our success here at the Sheriff’s Office. Our main priority is keeping our employees and inmates safe while they are in our custody.

It is a great privilege and honor to be the Sheriff of Jasper County.  As always, call us if you need us.

Respectfully,

Chuck Havard

Jasper County Sheriff
