Jasper County Sheriff's Report

7/15/2025

I am currently at the Sheriff's Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, networking with Sheriffs across Texas and learning new ways to assist the citizens of our great county. I had the honor of meeting DJ Daniel at the conference. DJ is an inspiration to all who know him with his incredible strength. DJ is battling brain cancer and has been sworn in as honorary peace officer by over 2,800 agencies across the United States. DJ will be sworn in by the Newton County Sheriff and myself soon. He is a beacon of hope and unity for law enforcement everywhere.

On June 26, 2025, Lt. Ainsworth was contacted by an observant Evadale resident who witnessed an illegal dumping act. The witness believed that something was wrong, pulled alongside the truck. The truck driver did not acknowledge the witness as he began backing up into the Entergy Substation just south of Thomas Road on Hwy 105. The witness then pulled into his own driveway. Later, the resident heard what he knew to be the truck dumping the contents of the truck trailer. He went back to the substation but couldn’t find the truck. The next morning when the witness went to work, he saw a pile of scrap building materials piled up at the TXDOT location near the Entergy Substation. The witness saw the truck later that day at J3 Recycling and a deputy was dispatched. Arquimedes Chaves-Cordova, 46, of Baytown, was arrested on July 7th for Illegal Dumping >5 lbs<500lbs (MB). He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

On July 9th, 2025, Sgt. Wade with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Hwy 96N and County Road 249 for a male laying in the ditch. Sgt. Wade arrived and noticed the male sitting up right in the ditch with an open container of alcohol. He made contact with the male and identified him as Freddie Pullin, 65, of Jasper. Sgt. Wade noticed that he exhibited slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. Pullin failed a sobriety test and was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Jail. He was charged with Public Intoxication (MC).

On July 9th, 2025, Deputy Noel observed a red Chevrolet Silverado pulling a flatbed trailer without operational taillights or brake lights. Upon checking the trailer registration, it was determined to have expired in 2015. The deputy made contact with the driver identified as Jonathan Dalton and the passenger identified as Jeremy Bellamy. Bellamy had an active warrant for his arrest through Sabine County for Criminal Trespass (MB). Bellamy was placed into custody and secured in the backseat of the patrol unit. Then Deputy Noel requested consent to search the vehicle for any contraband, to which Dalton granted.

During the search of the vehicle two small buds of marijuana and a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine were located inside the passenger door where the door panel had been removed. Dalton was issued multiple citations for Driving While License Invalid, Expired Registration for the trailer, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia due to the fact he claimed ownership of the paraphernalia. Dalton was released from the scene after he signed the citation. Bellamy was transported to the Jasper County Jail where he was booked in without incident.

On July 10th, 2025, Chief Deputy Larry Pulliam received a call from a citizen in the Beech Grove Community. The citizen advised Chief Deputy Pulliam that he believed multiple individuals were in the process of committing theft on a piece of property off of FM 1747. Once Chief Deputy Pulliam and I arrived at the location, a red Toyota pickup truck was attempting to exit the property. The deputies had arrived on scene and converged on the vehicle and placed the driver and two juveniles in custody. The driver was identified as Joshua J. Smith, 38, of Daisetta, Texas. He was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Carrying a Weapon. The juveniles were released with no charges.

On July 10th, 2025, Sgt. Wade was notified by me that John Cornelious Henderson of Jasper was wanted for numerous revocations of probation warrants. The sergeant patrolled areas that John usually frequented and located him riding a bicycle on Caldwell Street inside the city of Jasper. He placed Henderson into custody for the warrants. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail where he was booked in.

On July 10th, 2025, Joseph Maddox, 47, of Colmesneil, gave a false name to two deputies and evaded on foot into a heavily wooded area off of CR 032. Maddox had multiple felony warrants out of Tyler County and Jasper County. Multiple law-enforcement agencies responded to assist with the man hunt and a drone was deployed. Maddox was not located at that time. On July 11th, the Sheriff’s Office received information that Maddox was walking down the same county road. Deputies were immediately dispatched. He attempted to evade arrest again and had to be TASED to be taken into custody for all of his warrants. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail with the possibility of` more charges pending.

On July 10th, 2025, Beech Grove church members brought letters of encouragement and hope that had been written by the youth group at their church. The young people took the time to remind our inmates that their lives still matter. If anyone can make a positive lasting impact on the inmates, these kids can.

On July 11th, 2025, Alnita Howard, 53, of Bon Weir, was arrested and charged with Theft of Property -$2,50o0<$30K – State Jail Felony. This arrest stems from a purchase she made from Kemp Trailer Sales in Kirbyville on June 19th of this year. Howard paid with a personal check that was no good. The owner contacted her several times and she agreed to pay, but she never did. The case was forwarded to JCSO CID Investigators who located the stolen trailer and the suspect. Howard was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

Please note that all persons listed in this report are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

I am blessed to be the Sheriff of Jasper County and it is an extreme honor serving the people of this county. As always, call us if you need us.

Respectfully,

Chuck Havard

Jasper County Sheriff
