I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day. It was a day to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We live in a country where these sacrifices should never be taken for granted and I am thankful to live here.

In other news, a very large room inside the Jasper County Jail which was once used as a recreation room and later a storage room has been cleaned out. Thousands of articles and documents have been relocated. The documents removed will be stored digitally for legal purposes and historical value. The room is approximately 920 square feet and is coveted space for additional jail beds increasing our capacity by another 14 – 16 beds. We will begin renovations as soon as possible to get this room in compliance with Texas Law and standards set forth by the Texas Jail Commission. The project will take many months to complete. I want to thank our employees and the Jasper County jail trustees for their many hours of work. This was a huge undertaking and like always, they got it done.
I had a huge surprise on Saturday morning when I arrived at the Dewitt Clinton Masonic Lodge in Jasper. I thought I would be the guest speaker at their meeting. When I walked in, I began visiting people and was surprised to see my family start walking in. I was informed I would be receiving the Community Builder Award by the Masonic Lodge. To say I was surprised was an understatement. I want to sincerely thank the Masonic Lodge, the community members and everyone else who helped with this. The BBQ, desserts and cakes were awesome. This was a very special day for me and my family.
As always, it is an honor to be the Sheriff of Jasper County. Please don’t hesitate to call us if you need us.
Respectfully,
Chuck Havard
Jasper County Sheriff
