Jasper County Sheriff’s Report - 12/2/2025

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I sure did. Several citizens and community leaders made sure our staff and inmates had a great Thanksgiving Day meal at the Jasper County Jail. There was plenty of turkey, dressing and all the fixings for everyone, even officers from other agencies were able to come and enjoy a meal at our facility. I’d like to give a big shout out to Jasper County Cowboy Church, Jasper Quality Meats, Brother Tommy Cunningham and his wife, the Ratcliff’s and the Kaylor’s for their generosity. I’d also like to thank our employees for their hard work and dedication, like every day, they showed up and got the job done.

On November 26th, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., I received a call from a resident on FM 2938 (Callier Loop) in Buna regarding loose cattle. The resident advised me that the loose cattle belonged to the individual that resides at 2803 FM 2938. A short time later, Deputy Clayton Daigle and I arrived at the house and spoke with the individual about his loose livestock. (We have received information in the past about criminal activity taking place on this property). After talking with them about their loose livestock, we then informed the individuals that we believed their house/property to be associated with drug use and asked for his consent to search it. He did not have to give us consent, but he willingly gave us permission to search it. During the search, we found a clear off-white substance we believed to be methamphetamines in one of the bedrooms along with other drug paraphernalia. Obviously, we seized these items. At this time, we walked across the pasture and acquired consent to search a house located at 2725 FM 2938 (adjoining property). During the search of this residence, we also located a clear off-white substance we believed to be methamphetamines located in a room on a table. These substances were field tested and those results indicated positive for methamphetamines. Lieutenant Jason McClelland was called to the scene and assisted with processing the scene and photographing the evidence. The suspect located at 2803 FM 2938 was identified as Brian Kent Mason, 55, of Buna. The suspect located at 2725 FM 2938 was identified as Marcell Eugene Mason Jr., 64, Buna. These individuals were placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Jail. Both were charged with Felony-Possession of a Controlled Substance.

On November 30th, 2025, Deputies Morgan and Harrell were dispatched to a residence on CR 910 in Buna regarding a verbal disturbance. While investigating the circumstances of the disturbance, they came in contact with Zachary Johnson, 22, of Buna. It was discovered that Johnson had an active warrant from Red River County Sheriff's Office for Sexual Assault of a Child- 2nd Degree Felony. The warrant was confirmed and Johnson was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

On December 1st, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to 181 Business 96 "Stimit's Feed Store" in Buna in reference to a burglary in progress. Upon the deputy’s arrival, the victim stated he could hear someone inside of the building and that a white truck was outside of the building that did not belong to him. Deputies were able to call out the intruder through the patrol vehicles' PA system.

Christopher Hand, 35, of Buna exited the building. After Hand exited the building, deputies found tools and other items that were staged to be removed from inside the building and outside of the building. Hand was placed under arrest for Burglary of a Building- State Jail Felony and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

On December 1st, 2025, Texas DPS Sergeant Zack Atchison was promoted to Lieutenant in Beaumont and will be the Lieutenant in charge of the Jasper County Highway Patrol. Lieutenant Atchison has been with DPS for 16 years. In his career, he has been stationed in Madisonville and Hempstead. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2017 and remained stationed in Hempstead. In 2021, he transferred to Bastrop and remained there until his promotion to Lieutenant. DPS is a tremendous asset to rural Sheriff’s Offices and they often fill in the gaps for us with much needed assistance. We appreciate the fantastic working relationship we have with Captain Kevin Hussey, Sergeant Scott Folmar and their troopers and we are looking forward to working with Lieutenant Atchison. On behalf of the men and women of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, congratulations Lieutenant Atchison on your promotion. Welcome to our community!

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce our partnership with the Beech Grove Fire Department and the Beech Grove Baptist Church to raise funds for the Loving Hearts Animal Society. The Loving Hearts Animal Society is set to open the Kahla Memorial Humane Services Clinic in Beech Grove soon. This clinic’s mission will be to end unwanted pet pregnancies and decrease the number of homeless animals. With that being said, we will be hosting a fundraiser on December 6th, 2025, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Beech Grove Baptist Church. As with most rural counties, homeless animals are a major issue in our communities. We receive multiple calls on a daily basis regarding stray animals. Although we do all we can, we do not have the resources needed to fully combat this problem. This facility will have a significant impact on this crisis in Jasper County. I encourage every resident in our county and across East Texas to come out and support this event. Every penny raised will be put into this facility. Special thanks to the Kahla family for their generosity.

This Wednesday night, December 3rd from 6pm to 8pm, we will have a Golf Tournament at 5 Under Golf Center in Beaumont. This event is being sponsored by Texla Equipment and Dr. Ray Callas. All proceeds will be coming back to Jasper County for our Blue Santa Program. We are expecting a large crowd! Come out and see us. We have two more events scheduled for Blue Santa this week. Today is the last day to apply for Blue Santa. If you haven’t applied yet, please do so by the end of today.

Everyone listed in this report is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

As previously reported, our five new deputies have been released from the FTO program and are now working by themselves. All of these individuals have demonstrated good judgement, common sense, and leadership skills. With the addition of these deputies, it enables us to be more proactive and reduce response times. We certainly could not have added these positions without the support of our county judge and commissioners. We are here for you and your families, 24/7. It is a privilege and honor representing the people of this county.

Respectfully,

Chuck Havard

Jasper County Sheriff
