Jasper County Sheriff’s Report - 01/06/2026

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the addition of a new jail nurse, Stephanie Redd Thomas, of Kirbyville. Mrs. Thomas will be responsible for providing medical care to individuals incarcerated at our jail. Additionally, she will be working together with professionals from Spindletop to assist in providing Mental Health care. We take the health and safety of our inmates very serious and we are proud to have her join our team. She’s a lifelong resident of Kirbyville and is married to her husband, Cornelius. She has two daughters and has been in the correctional field for over 20 years. Congratulations to Mrs. Thomas. We look forward to working with her.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce an addition to our administrative staff, Debbie Berry. Debbie will be assigned to the Buna office located in the sub-courthouse. Debbie is a 1991 graduate of Buna High School and a 1994 graduate of Lamar University’s Paralegal Program. She’s been married to her husband, Cody, for 30 years. She has 2 sons, Mason, and wife Lea and Trenton, and wife Ashton. She has 3 grandchildren, Kasen, Scarlett, and Dolly. She has worked for Jasper County for nearly 15 years. She was the court clerk for Judge Becky Cleveland and served as the interim Justice of the Peace for precinct # 4. For the past 9 years, she has been the administrative assistant to DPS in Jasper County. Debbie will be responsible for the secretarial needs of our deputies and investigators. Additionally, she will continue to assist DPS with their secretarial needs as well. Having her on our staff will allow us to decrease the amount of time our deputies spend on processing reports and other office responsibilities. We want our deputies to spend the majority of their time being visible in neighborhoods, businesses, and schools. We are all very excited to welcome Debbie to the Sheriff’s Office. She will be an invaluable member of our team.

We are proud to step up and assist Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace. Their jail flooded December 29th, 2025, due to plumbing issues so Sheriff Wallace desperately needed assistance in housing six inmates. We were able to house those inmates. We value our partnerships with East Texas Law Enforcement agencies. We know if we needed Sheriff Wallace’s assistance, he would step up and help us as well.

On Monday, December 29th, 2025, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Deputy Shannon Davis conducted a traffic stop for defective equipment on Hwy 82 W in Kirbyville. Deputy Davis made contact with the driver who was identified as Matthew Laney, 36, of Kirbyville. While speaking with Laney, Deputy Davis observed drug paraphernalia in plain view. Based on this, a probable cause search of the vehicle was done. During the search, Deputy Davis found a small plastic bag containing what he knew to be methamphetamine. Laney was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1<1G - State Jail Felony and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

On January 1st, 2026, Jasper County Deputies received multiple tips in reference to a wanted male. The male was identified as Jake Neal, aka “Clean”, 44, of Buna. Deputies investigated multiple leads in reference to Neal's location. Information was finally received that Neal was located at a residence at the 300 block of County Road 404 in Kirbyville. Deputies responded to this location and located and arrested Neal on his warrant. Neal was arrested for Burglary of Habitation - Felony 2 and transported to the Jasper County Jail. Further charges are pending.

On January 2nd, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Jasper County Deputies responded to a residence in Buna’s Cougar Country regarding a possible emotionally disturbed person. Upon arrival, deputies could not locate anyone at the residence. However, a 2022 Ford Bronco was observed next to the residence. Deputies became suspicious when the SUV did not have license plates on it, no registration sticker was affixed to the windshield, and the VIN # was covered. A records check was ran and the vehicle was found to be stolen out of Harris County. There is an ongoing investigation.

On January 5, 2026, Jasper County Deputies were assisting the Jasper Police Department with a traffic crash on Premier Drive near Lowe’s when a deputy observed a vehicle associated with a fugitive. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and confirmed the driver as Clendon Antajuan Dasean Spikes, who was recently indicted by a Jasper County Grand Jury on felony charges stemming from multiple investigations conducted by the Jasper Police Department’s Safe Streets Division and the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force. Spikes was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jasper County Jail for arraignment.

Everyone listed in this report is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

We are here for you and your families, 24/7. It is a privilege and honor representing the people of this county.

Respectfully,

Chuck Havard
