Jasper County officials search for man who fell from overturned boat Friday afternoon

Buna, Tx. Shortly after 4 pm Friday, Jasper County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a stranded fisherman off County Road 701 at 10 Acre Lake Road.

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said that the wife of 60-year-old Steven Morgan of Buna said that her husband called her after his boat flipped while fishing. According to the call, Morgan was able to make it to a small island or ridge where he made the call requesting assistance.

Havard said that rescuers began searching the area for Morgan within 30 minutes of the call, but were unable to locate him. Searchers continued until 2 am but resumed their search at 8 am Saturday morning. As of 7 pm Saturday, Morgan still had not been located.

Havard said that the search will resume tomorrow morning.

Havard wanted to extend his thanks to Jefferson County for sending a helicopter to search by air, all the local Volunteer Fire Departments, Law Enforcement, and all those from other organizations and ordinary citizens who have volunteered their time and effort from the very beginning to find Morgan and many who will also be on site again tomorrow.
