Buna, Texas — Jasper County deputies arrested a Buna man late Tuesday night after an assault was reported in the Cougar Country area.
According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, deputies responded on September 30, 2025, at approximately 9:20 p.m. after receiving reports of an assault involving an adult female victim and her boyfriend, Donny Luckey, 43, of Buna.
The victim told deputies that Luckey struck her multiple times in the face. She had visible injuries, and witnesses confirmed the assault. When deputies arrived, Luckey had already fled the scene.
The following day, October 1, Criminal Investigations Division Lt. Jason McClelland visited the victim to deliver a Victims’ Rights notification. He also re-photographed her injuries, which had worsened overnight. While Lt. McClelland was with the victim, Luckey returned to the location.
At that time, a judge was in the process of issuing a warrant for his arrest. Luckey was detained until the warrant was finalized, then arrested on the charge of Family Violence – Assault (Class A Misdemeanor) and booked into the Jasper County Jail.
Sheriff Havard noted that while Luckey is presumed innocent unless proven guilty, this marks Luckey’s third arrest in Jasper County since February of this year.
February 26, 2025 – Burglary of Habitation; Theft of Property ($750–$2,500)
August 31, 2025 – Theft of Service ($750–$2,500)
October 1, 2025 – Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member
“Luckey has proven to be someone who can’t stay out of trouble,” Havard said. “Our hope is to keep him in the Jasper County Jail for a while.”

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact of family violence. According to the Texas Council on Family Violence, thousands of Texans each year experience abuse at the hands of a partner or family member.
Sheriff Havard emphasized his department’s commitment to supporting victims and holding offenders accountable: “We remain dedicated to combating criminal activity in Jasper County and standing with victims of domestic violence.”
