BEECH GROVE, Texas — Around 10:34 a.m., Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department (BGVFD) and Allegiance Mobile Health–Jasper EMS were dispatched to a medical emergency involving an injured hunter who had reportedly fallen from a tree stand off Park Road 5045 inside the Corps of Engineers’ Sandy Creek Park at Dam B.

Responders discovered the hunter roughly one mile into thick woods south of Park Road 5045, near the shores of Dam B. Access to the scene was difficult due to downed timber, dense undergrowth, and marshy terrain.

Firefighters used chainsaws to clear a path for their UTV, allowing crews to get within about a quarter-mile of the injured hunter. Firefighters and medics then continued on foot, carrying medical equipment and a stokes basket for transport.

Upon arrival, the patient was alert and conscious but suffering from injuries. He told rescuers he had fallen approximately 15 feet from a portable tree stand and had been on the ground for about 45 minutes before managing to reach his phone and call for help.

The patient was assessed, treated, and carefully carried out of the woods in a stokes basket to the UTV. From there, he was transported to a landing zone within Sandy Creek Park, where an Air Rescue – Beaumont/Jasper medical helicopter was waiting. He was then flown to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for further treatment.

Fire Chief James Gunter praised the teamwork displayed across multiple agencies.

“This was a great example of excellent coordination — starting with the 911 telecommunications operators at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, who pinpointed the hunter’s location, to the park personnel, game wardens, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, and medics who safely secured and rescued the patient,” Gunter said.

He also emphasized the role community donations played in making the rescue possible.

“Every piece of equipment we used today — the brush truck, the UTV trailer, and the UTV itself — was donated by local supporters,” Gunter said. “Your donations and your support of the BGVFD save lives — just as they did today.”

The department extended its thanks to everyone involved for their quick response and to the community for its continued support.
