An East Texas man arrested in Angelina County on child pornography charges has been sentenced to life in prison following a guilty plea.
Choe Chance Evans, 51, of Huntington, pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges related to the possession and promotion of child pornography and agreed to maximum sentences as part of a plea agreement, according to the Angelina County District Attorney’s Office.
Evans was charged with six counts of promotion of child pornography and 21 counts of possession of child pornography.
Under the plea agreement, Evans was sentenced to life in prison, followed by two additional 20-year sentences to be served consecutively, effectively ensuring he will spend the remainder of his life in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Investigation details
According to the district attorney’s office, the investigation began after Google reported suspected child pornography uploads on July 1 and July 2, 2021, to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators later determined the material was uploaded from an IP address associated with an account belonging to Evans.
Texas Department of Public Safety agents executed a search warrant at Evans’ residence in Huntington, where he was located inside the home at the time of the search.
Investigators reported that Evans’ cellphone contained child pornography, and a subsequent forensic examination revealed numerous images along with browser history showing repeated access to illegal material on multiple dates. Authorities also determined Evans used applications and web browsers designed to conceal online activity, IP address, and identity.
Case progression
Evans was initially indicted on Sept. 28, 2022, on three counts of possession of child pornography. According to Angelina County officials, a later review of the case following a change in leadership at the district attorney’s office resulted in the identification of additional evidence and the filing of further charges.
Evans was arrested on Dec. 5, 2025, and remained in custody while the case proceeded.
With his guilty plea and sentencing, the case is now considered resolved.
