It’s a steamy start to the weekend in Jasper, with daily afternoon storm chances building and the heat index expected to push into the triple digits.
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles says a high-pressure ridge over the area today is helping to keep rain chances low for now. But starting Friday and lasting into early next week, expect a return to the usual Gulf Coast summer rhythm: hot, humid days followed by scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
For Jasper, rain chances will gradually increase through the weekend, jumping from 20% Friday to 45% Sunday, mainly in the afternoon hours. The best window for storms each day will fall between noon and 6 p.m., so those with outdoor plans may want to schedule early or keep an umbrella nearby.

Rainfall amounts in our region will range from 0.25 to 1 inch, with heavier totals expected closer to Lafayette and New Iberia, though some cells could still bring a quick downpour locally.
Even with those scattered storms, heat remains a top concern. Jasper is forecast to hit a heat index of 100 to 102 degrees each day through the weekend, with actual highs in the mid-90s. That kind of heat can sneak up quickly, especially when paired with high humidity.

What Jasper Residents Should Know:
If you hear thunder, go indoors immediately — lightning can strike from storms even miles away.
Plan morning activities, and avoid extended time outdoors in the afternoon.
Stay hydrated, wear breathable clothes, and check on pets and neighbors.
Don’t forget to bring plants and yard tools in before afternoon storms move through.
The heat and storm pattern is expected to continue into early next week, with daily rain chances holding steady between 35-45% and heat indices near 100° through Tuesday.
