JASPER, Texas — The Jasper Hospital District has stepped in to help ease the financial load on Jasper County taxpayers, donating $125,000 to cover medical expenses for inmates housed at the county jail.

The funds were formally presented Tuesday morning by JHD Vice President Rodney Norsworthy during a check presentation at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

County leaders say the contribution provides much-needed relief for local taxpayers and the Commissioners Court, which is often tasked with covering inmate healthcare costs from county funds.

“This generous contribution will greatly help us pay for the medical needs of our jail inmates while in our custody,” said Sheriff Chuck Havard. “This is not only a great benefit to the Sheriff’s Office, it also takes a significant load off the taxpayers and the Jasper County Commissioner’s Court.”

The donation ensures that necessary medical care for inmates can be provided without drawing as heavily on county resources, allowing tax dollars to be directed toward other priorities.

Havard praised the Jasper Hospital District Board for stepping up in a way that benefits the broader community. “The Board Members’ decision reflects their dedication to both public health and public safety,” he said.

Community leaders emphasized that the contribution highlights the power of local partnerships and a shared commitment to the people of Jasper County.
