Homicide Investigation Underway After Fatal Shooting of Woodville Teen

Jasper Police have launched a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman from Woodville just before midnight on Tuesday, May 27.
According to Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster, officers were dispatched to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital late Tuesday night after hospital staff reported that a female had been brought in with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite immediate efforts by medical staff, the young woman was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The victim’s name is being withheld at this time, pending formal notification of next of kin. Authorities have confirmed she was a 19-year-old Black female and a resident of Woodville.
A 23-year-old Black male, also from Woodville, was taken into custody at the hospital without incident. Police say the man is cooperating with investigators. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered.
The suspect is currently being held at the Jasper County Jail on a preliminary charge of manslaughter. His name has not yet been released, pending formal charges and arraignment. An autopsy has been ordered to confirm investigative findings.
