Whether you're a first-time paddler or an experienced kayaker looking to reconnect with nature, Martin Dies, Jr. State Park has a weekend adventure just for you. Join Texas Parks and Wildlife for a Guided Kayak Trip this Saturday, June 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., launching from the Walnut Slough Day Use Area (Walnut Ridge Unit) in Jasper, Texas.
Participants will explore the Walnut Slough and nearby lake waters while learning about the area’s diverse flora and fauna from knowledgeable guides. Whether you're an experienced paddler or a first-time kayaker, this fun-filled morning promises a scenic and relaxing way to connect with nature.

Location: Launch from Walnut Slough Day Use Area (Walnut Ridge Unit), Martin Dies, Jr. State Park - 634 Park Road 48 South, Jasper, TX 75951
What to Bring:
A canoe or kayak (or rent one on-site—first come, first served).
Water shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
Plenty of drinking water.
Cost Breakdown:
Guided kayak trips are free to join.
Park entrance fee: $4 per person (ages 13 and up).
Boat rentals: Additional cost (not covered by the park entrance or Texas State Park Pass)
Note: Boat rental availability is limited and is handled on a first come, first-served basis. Rentals are not included with any pass benefits.
While guides will be present to offer direction and insight, all participants should be comfortable maneuvering their boat. If your kayak tips over, you’ll need to be able to re-enter it independently. You are also welcome to paddle at your own pace or peel off from the group once on the water.
