Jasper, TX Almost a year after the fatal Police involved shooting of Elvin Land of Jasper, a Grand Jury has no-billed the officers involved. What this means is that the jury has decided there is not enough evidence to formally charge the officers in the case.

Press Release:

Jasper County Criminal District Attorney Anne Pickle announced today that the Jasper County Grand Jury met today and heard testimony from Texas Ranger Joe Haralson concerning the officer involved shooting that took place on the morning of June 4, 2024, at a residence located at 109 Parker Drive in Jasper, Texas. On that date officers from the City of Jasper Police Department executed a search warrant at that residence searching for illegal narcotics believed to be in the possession of Brian Land.

The independent investigation conducted by Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers Division revealed that officers were fired upon by Elvin Land during the execution of the search warrant. Officers returned fire resulting in the death of Mr. Elvin Land. The investigation further revealed that a JPD officer was hit by a round fired by Elvin Land.

After hearing testimony from Ranger Haralson, the Jasper County Grand Jury determined that JPD officers were justified in the use of deadly force, which is the only question that the grand jury was asked to decide.

Jasper County Criminal District Attorney Anne Pickle and Ranger Haralson thanked the grand jurors for their service and their sincere efforts to closely scrutinize the evidence in this and all other cases presented to them.
