Governor Greg Abbott has expanded Texas’ winter storm disaster declaration, adding 85 additional counties to ensure affected communities can quickly access state emergency resources as severe winter weather continues across the state.
The amended declaration brings the total number of counties under disaster status to 219, reflecting widespread impacts from freezing temperatures, snow, and icy conditions.
“Communities across the state have been impacted by this weekend’s winter weather,” Abbott said. “I am updating my disaster declaration to include additional counties to help more Texans during these freezing temperatures.”
Texans are urged to continue monitoring local weather forecasts and road conditions and to follow guidance from local officials to stay safe.
According to the Governor’s Office, the State of Texas has deployed more than 10,900 state responders, 4,900 vehicles and pieces of equipment, and resources from more than 15 state agencies. The Texas State Emergency Operations Center remains activated with 24-hour operations to support local response efforts.
The disaster proclamation authorizes the use of all available state and local government resources and allows for the suspension of certain regulatory statutes to speed emergency response and protect life and property.
