A Jasper County Deputy was on patrol last night, June 4th in Evadale at 8:20 p.m., when he noticed a vehicle with some type of lighting defect.

The deputy stopped the vehicle on FM 1131, and identified the driver as 43-year-old Joshua Stimits and his passenger, 42-year-old Chastity McGurk, both of Buna.
Upon speaking with the driver, the deputy believed that there could be narcotics in the car. He asked to search the vehicle, and the driver freely gave him permission to do so.
While searching, the deputy discovered what he knew to be methamphetamines. Both Stimits and McGurk denied knowing anything about how the drugs came to be in the vehicle. At that time, both were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 <1G, a State Jail Felony. While arresting Stimits, he began resisting. During the struggle, a good Samaritan saw what was happening and assisted the deputy in getting Stimits into custody. Stimits was also charged with Resist Arrest Search Transport, a Class A Misdemeanor. Both Stimits and McGurk were transported to the Jasper County Jail.
As always, both of these individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
